What happens when the wolf comes home with you? Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is virtually ignored as a phenomenon amongst nurses. Everyday, nurses see, feel and hear things that would be wholly intolerable to the public: trauma of the worst possible kind in every conceivable manifestation. Yet we are expected by our colleagues, managers and the public alike to ‘suck it up and get on with the job’. Nurses do just that, but the price of this stoicism can be catastrophic.
