What is this article about?

The hormone cortisol is produced by the adrenal glands and is released into the bloodstream to facilitate the body’s response to stress or danger. Cortisol is also involved in glucose metabolism and blood pressure regulation and has anti-inflammatory properties. Prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol causes damage to body tissues, leading to the symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome.
