Orthopaedic trauma can occur to anybody at any time. According to data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, it’s the most common type of injury resulting in hospitalisation. The term orthopaedic trauma refers to injuries to organs or tissues in the musculoskeletal system, which includes: bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and any related tissues and vessels. Orthopaedic trauma can range in severity from a minor muscle strain to a potentially life-threatening injury.

This article was my relevant to my scope of practice in nursing career. During my work in hospital, most of the cases used to be orthopaedic injuries from accident and other trauma. Hence, from this article I gain my knowledge regarding treatment and management.
