Fire Safety in Residential Aged Care
1. Understand the importance of fire safety in residential aged care.
2. Refresh and reinforce existing fire safety training.
3. Recognise ways to reduce the risk and spread of fires.
4. Understand the importance of an emergency response plan.
Minimising Restrictive Practices in Residential Aged Care
1. Define restrictive practice.
2. Identify various forms of restrictive practices.
3. Understand the legal requirements for the use of any restrictive practice.
4. Discover alternative interventions to restrictive practices to minimise their use.
Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination in the Workplace
1. Understand what bullying is (and what it is not).
2. Recognise bullying, harassment and discrimination in the workplace.
3. Take appropriate action if you experience or witness bullying, harassment or discrimination at work.
Infection Prevention and Control
1. Understand how infection prevention and control principles reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
2. Know when and how to apply standard precautions.
3. Know when and how to apply transmission-based precautions.
4. Know when to perform the five moments of hand hygiene.
5. Know how to safely don and doff personal protective equipment.
Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS)
1. Recognise what is and what isn’t a serious, reportable incident.
2. Respond appropriately to a serious incident.
3. Report a serious incident to the key personnel in your organisation for notification to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
4. Record relevant details about a serious incident to help prevent further incidents from occurring.
Workplace Health and Safety
1. Identify steps involved in managing workplace health and safety.
2. Describe and identify hazardous manual tasks.
3. Assess the risk of manual tasks.
4. Locate state/territory workplace health and safety acts and regulations.
Apology and Open Disclosure in Healthcare
1. Understand the importance of open disclosure.
2. Know your individual responsibilities in relation to open disclosure.
3. Understand and apply the principles of the Australian Open Disclosure Framework.
4. Appropriately apologise or give an expression of regret in response to an adverse event.
