Medicines with anticholinergic effects are commonly used by older people for many clinical conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, depression and urinary incontinence, among others. However, taking one or more anticholinergic medicines can potentially result in severe consequences such as falls, cognitive decline and even death. In this lecture, pharmacist Dr Jenny Gowan discusses the impacts of anticholinergic medicines on health outcomes and provides strategies for reducing these risks.
