This Bloodsafe eLearning Australia course is one of six related courses on iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) in different clinical settings and with the increasing complexity of diagnosis and treatment.

In Australia the prevalence of anaemia in children under five-years of age is approximately 8%, or more than 100,000 preschool children.

This case study is based on a 19-month-old girl who is diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia.

The areas covered in this course include:
  • the causes of iron deficiency anaemia in neonates, infants, children and adolescents
  • assessment, investigations and diagnosis, including determination of the underlying cause
  • management options and assessment of response
