Lecture Overview

Assessing an older person who is experiencing pain as a result of trauma can be challenging. However, without that critical holistic assessment it is not possible to effectively help to the manage pain. This session will look at assessment tools for determining acute pain and chronic pain in a variety of situations.

This resource was very informative on different levels as it showed how nurses behave towards people who idenify pain and for those who cant. It showed me different types of pain scoring that will be very useful for me inthe future. i will be revisiting this lecture again

pain is prevalent in aged group, can cause imbalance neuropathic pain is not best to be treated by morphine only. ask the patient about how to manage about their pain before giving? ask about the pain, not just looking find the pain and underlying reason is important mobility, social behavior, appetite, temper could be a sign of pain Objective: tachycardia, sweating, pallor, reduce mobility, coughing, guarding behavior Palliative or provocative factor: better or worse Quality: neuropathic pain is burning , shooting and stabbing Region and radiation Severity: how bad Time: same time, what time in the day Understanding: know why have pain Value: what is the goal for pain management if someone always complaint of pain, do obs and ask patient how to manage
