Course Overview

Before we can provide care for people experiencing dementia, it’s important to first understand what dementia is and how it may affect the individual. This training module will provide staff with a foundational understanding of dementia and its common psychological and behavioural symptoms, along with some initial strategies for managing them.

• How dementia can present
• Common behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD)
• The ABC approach to behaviour management
• How to support a person with dementia who is experiencing changed behaviours

Learning Outcomes

• Understand what dementia is.
• Recognise dementia in a client.
• Understand common psychological and behavioural symptoms of dementia.
• Use different strategies for managing behavioural changes.
• Provide necessary support to a person with dementia.

Target Audience

All healthcare professionals and staff who care for people with dementia.
