Course Overview

Do you find it difficult to discuss motivation in people who have diabetes mellitus? Are you confident that you are initiating best-practice approaches to a lifestyle change? Undertake this Ausmed Course now to unpack barriers to self-management and learn what it takes to truly enable and empower a person with diabetes.

Topics
  • Why is self-management essential to diabetes?
  • What are the potential impacts of biases and assumptions?
  • What other issues surround ‘compliance’?
Need

A person-centred approach to the management of diabetes mellitus strongly correlates with positive patient outcomes. Despite this evidence, health professionals may not be familiar with or lack confidence in assisting people with diabetes to initiate and sustain best-practice approaches to self-management.

Education that enables healthcare professionals to engage holistically with people with diabetes mellitus and support clients to overcome challenges associated with motivation and self-management is essential.

Purpose

The purpose of this Ausmed Course is to improve healthcare professionals’ understanding of the challenges associated with diabetes management. This includes motivation in order to improve engagement and self-management to support the best patient outcomes.

Learning Outcomes
  • People in your care with diabetes will receive correct and ongoing evidence-based education to assist their self-management, preventing complications over time.
  • You will be able to consistently apply person-centred principles to goals in self-management using more in-depth knowledge of motivation in chronic disease.
  • Encourage people with diabetes mellitus in your care to reflect on preferred lifestyle and initiate practical, realistic changes as necessary for better health.
Target Audience

All healthcare professionals will gain confidence from undertaking this Course, given the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and the need to holistically support people with this long-term chronic condition.
