Breastfeeding plays a vital role in supporting the healthy growth and development of babies and is widely recognised as the optimal source of nutrition during early life. In Australia, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for around the first six months, with continued breastfeeding alongside solid foods for at least 12 months and beyond, depending on the needs and preferences of the mother and child.
While most Australian babies - around 96% - are breastfed at least once, fewer continue to receive breast milk as they grow older. By six months of age, only around 74% of babies are still being breastfed. A wide range of factors can influence how long and how successfully mothers breastfeed, including medical challenges, confidence levels, cultural beliefs and the support they receive from healthcare professionals and their communities.
Therefore, this course aims to empower healthcare professionals with improved knowledge and understanding of breastfeeding so that they can offer practical, evidence-based and empathetic support to families during this critical stage of life.
Assign mandatory training and keep all your records in-one-place.
