February 2026: This module is currently under review following the recent release of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission’s updated SIRS guidance material. Thank you for your patience while we update this resource.

The Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) is designed to uphold the safety, dignity and rights of older people receiving residential aged care or home care services. As a care worker, you play a crucial role in recognising when something has gone wrong and responding in the right way. This Ausmed Training Module introduces the SIRS and supports you to take prompt, appropriate action when responding to serious incidents in care.

This Ausmed Training Module is a simplified activity on the Serious Incident Response Scheme designed for care staff only. For a more in-depth activity on the SIRS for healthcare professionals, see Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS).
