As dementia progresses, brain changes are linked with changes in behaviour. Transitioning to respite care can also lead to changed behaviours that can be difficult for people with dementia, their family, carers, and communities. Understanding what changed behaviour looks like, and the factors that contribute to it, can help plan and deliver the best possible respite experience for people with dementia.
By completing this module, it is anticipated that you will be able to:
- identify the relationship between dementia and behaviour change
- describe the most common changes in behaviour for people living with dementia
- recognise why it is important to understand changed behaviour in respite
- recall how to support changed behaviour in people with dementia while in respite
